My 5 tips on how to make Facebook/Instagram Lives not so scary!

I hate doing them, you hate doing them and I’m not sure anyone really enjoys putting themselves through a doing live video on social media BUT is does help you to reach more people, earn the know like and trust factor to your audience and video is one of the biggest things on social media right now!

So, here’s 5 tips to make it easier…

  1. To avoid errors and pure panic as your filming make sure you have great internet connection. You don’t want to get cut off at the peak of your video and have to do it again.
  2. Keep it short and have a point to the video. I find this hard because I tend to waffle over what I want to say and I think a lot of people do the same when they’re nervous. A to the point 1 minute video is much better that a 15 minute one that people will switch off from.
  3. Make lighting a priority. If I’m doing a live out and about or in my car I make sure I am facing the daylight and where possible I am all over a ring light! But you don’t have to invest money to look great on video, you just have to be in the light!
  4. Look at the camera and not at yourself. Isn’t that a relief! That you don’t have to watch yourself talking, yet a lot of people do it. They look at themselves on the screen as they’re talking. You need to be looking at the camera lens, that’s where your audience are.
  5. Take a deep breath and smile – BE YOU. People want to see you and your personality, sometimes it doesn’t even matter what you’re saying, if you’re being yourself everyone will relate to you and get to know you.

Another favourite of mine is just to count down 5,4,3,2,1 and hit the live button, otherwise I can procrastinate for ages or not do it at all!
